Goodbye ghetto fabulous
After talking with my mom and learning that evidently I'm already on the plan that lets you get one of the smart phone type things I decided it was time to replace my poor ghetto fabulous pink phone
Welcome to Legal Aid!
Thursday was a pretty big day around here, I started BarBri and my new job! BarBri was about as much fun as law school only minus having friends in class to comisserate with and IM. The job however is going really well. Turns out I'm just training this summer and won't have actual cases until after the bar, but I still get some experience and hopefully it won't be too stressful. The people I work with are pretty cool so far but I don't really know any of them yet so there aren't any fun stories there just yet. On funny thing that happened though was that the guy there who runs the intermural teams (yes, we have intermural teams at legal aid, its kind of fantastic) sent one of the girls down to the office I was training at to ask me to play on their intermural softball team. Evidently his specific words to her were "There's a new girl in public benefits and she looks like she might play sports". So now I'm on a softball and volleyball team after bing back in KC for less than 2 weeks, which I suppose surprises no one

And just because I was so excited about it, here are pictures of my office. Its pretty sparse right now and the desk is from the 80s but I still like it. I don't know how to format the blog very well yet though so I apologize that its not as pretty as it could be ;)

Gay Cowboys
Last Saturday brought a new experience for me, I finally attended my first official barbeque that didn't take place in a park or a backyard. My gay BFF Cole was volunteering at said barbeque, called "The Great American Barbeque" (GAB) because his boyfriend, Vince, was on the committee for the event. For those of you who don't know, Kansas City is famous for its barbeque (although I didn't have true Kansas City BBQ until I was a sophomore in college...) and there is another popular event here called "The American Royal Barbeque". GAB was started by two of Cole's friends (who are also gay, hence the title of the blog) who were big shots with the American Royal Barbeque but then took issue with something they did/how it was run. I don't know the whole story, but I'm happy about this event.

Upon arrival at GAB I expected to be left to wander the venue it was located at (think State Fair grounds). So I call Cole to tell him that we (read Maureen and I) were there. He and Vince came riding up in a golf cart to pick us up! After being let in for free because we were "with the committee" we road the cart all over the grounds and ended at the hospitality tent. The hospitality tent consisted of a lot of free delicious barbeque and beer. What else could we ask for! Funnel cake, that's what (which we promptly found so it was all okay).
Basically we spent the night wandering the fair grounds and riding the golf cart so that we could check out "the cute nut guy" with our new gay friend, Austin. Keep your minds out of the gutter, he actually was selling the cinnamon roasted almonds, etc and he was very cute. For checking this particular boy out, you can call me a cougar because he was probably 18. At least that's what I'm telling myself.
To end the night we watched a fantastic fireworks show from a hill top overlooking the concert area. Yes, there was a country concert going on as well. Needless to say it was a pretty good night, one might even say this would have been the perfect date night. Except that all of the boys I was with were gay (Hence, gay cowboys). Thus is my lot in life, to be surrounded by fantastic, fun men :) Just so you can tell what I'm talking about I've included a picture
And after the barbeque, they all went home.
And now back to our regularly scheduled programming
Evidently my apartment complex doesn't believe in internet access until you've been here a week and a half....my apologize for teasing everyone by starting a blog and then failing to update it! I now have internet in my apartment so look for more frequent updates.
Unfortunately life in KC this last week hasn't been as entertaining as one would have hoped, my stories are fairly boring but I trust that I'll get into some trouble soon!
I got to KC at about 9PM on Tuesday after what felt like a ridiculously long drive only to discover that in order to move things from my car up to my apartment Maureen and I had to haul my stuff across the building, up to the second floor (read "elevator"), down a short hallway, and down a long hallway. Doesn't sound like much, except that we made the trip no less than 8 times before being confronted with the heaviest object in this load....the TV. Since I live in a fairly ghetto part of KC (think bad side of South Bend with more people loitering and walking around), we decided leaving it in the car overnight was probably a bad call.
I was all ready to use my muscles to take the TV up myself, except Maureen had a better idea. There's a pizza restaurant right by the apartment so we walked on over to ask if they had a dolly we could borrow. I let Maureen do the talking because frankly she's better at talking men into doing things for us, I think its the patented hair flip. Maureen walks up to a guy (enter Pizza Boy) and asks if they have a dolly we can use. Pizza Boy's looks at Maureen, asks his managers if they need him for ten minutes, and then tells us he'll move it for us! Go Maureen! Since then we have been having a lively debate as to how old Pizza Boy is. I say 19, Maureen says he's definitely over 21 most likely 22 or 23. My response to Maureen: Cougar.*
*This is fair payback as Maureen has been calling me a Cougar since I moved in as I am the oldest person living in this complex. In fact I think I'm older than the people running the leasing office and ever once in a while when they give me guff I am tempted to say "Children! Listen up!" I believe I have begun to channel Emily "the Enforcer" Follas.
And in typical fashion, Pizza Boy moved my TV in....and then he went home.

Purpose of this Blog
I blame Bagel for this...for some reason I decided it would be a brilliant idea to start a blog to keep up with everyone from law school. After 3 years of blog reading I finally gave it, kudos to Bagel and Christina for that :) And thanks to Em for judging me for blogging but reading it anyway. The purpose of this blog is to have a place for my stupid/crazy stories (many of which involve "bad decisions" I've made or will make in the future), general thoughts, and questions
The name of the blog comes from the general ending to most of my stories, even the ones I consider bad decisions. Generally when I tell a story about a boy I get to the end and the listener asks "then what happened?", and I respond "Then he went home". Needless to say the stories are fairly PG, but nonetheless entertaining
Stay tuned for my next attempt at posting.
